Many couples have questions about destination weddings. In my experience, the amazing advantages are not common knowledge. Here at Vacations With Flair, we are committed to helping couples have the best information needed to make these decisions.
Mexico is still the most popular destination. With direct flights, good pricing and short travel times, there are a lot of reasons to choose Mexico. Especially since there are more all inclusive resorts in Mexico than any other destination. However, the Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Bahamas) is a close second. For couples that are not traveling with a group, Tahiti, Hawaii and St. Lucia continue to be very popular.
The most dramatic advantage is financial. It can be much cheaper to have a destination wedding than a tradition wedding. Depending on the resort, you can avoid having to pay a caterer, a ceremony site or reception hall fee, and the bill for the open bar. Instead of paying big bucks to decorate the ceremony location, the beach provides spectacular backdrop for photos. A good wedding travel specialist should be able to help direct you to the right choices. For something as important as a wedding, it helps to sit down and figure out the numbers with a professional.
If you are traveling with a group, there can be many advantages. At the right resort, you’ll receive free room upgrades, a free wedding ceremony, or even free nights. Right now, a few resorts are offering free unlimited private events for those groups.
Fun & relaxed memories are another advantage. Most couples that choose to go this route are wanting to spend a few days celebrating with family and friends. It’s as much of an emotional decision as it is a financial one. They may be wanting to give their families space and time to create memories together, or maybe they just love the idea of a celebration that lasts more than a day. Just like each couple is unique, their reason for wanting a destination wedding is also unique.
If you choose a legal ceremony, yes! Out of country weddings are recognized in the United States. Paperwork is minimal. Each country will have its own set of requirements, including how many days in advance they want you to arrive before the ceremony (residency requirements). This is definitely something to take into consideration when choosing a destination wedding.
